Earl Weaver, God

This is so great, it deserves its own post.

Ump: "You are a liar, Earl!"
Earl: "You are!"
Ump: "A liar!"
Earl: "You are! You are!"

My only worry is that "God" doesn't go far enough.

PS: And this one. It may be even better. By gosh, it is. Earl Weaver: Much, Much Better than God.

PPS: It's not even fucking close.

I just listened to it. My life will never be the same.

I've listened to it 3 or 4 times now. It will never get old.

I'm just relieved because now I can die knowing I've heard it.

Incidentally, Terry Crowley is currently the hitting coach of the Baltimore Orioles, which is "a Major League Baseball team," according to Wikipedia, though I don't believe it.

That is incredible. Just about sums everything up, doesn't it? By the way, there is more to the interview; click on the manager's corner video at the side of the second one. There is basically one question that was left out, which was not as funny, but still pretty good.

Thanks for the tip. I replaced the link on the post with the extended version.

The fact is, this is the single greatest moment in radio, and I worry I understate.

"The problem with Earl is that he holds a grudge. Other managers, if they disagree with a call, may holler and shout, but you can still go out for a beer with them after the game. Not Earl. He never forgets. Heck, he even holds your minor league record against you. Once, a couple of years ago, I made a controversial call at the plate. Earl charged out of the dugout, screaming that that was the same call I'd blown at Elmira in '66. That sort of thing can get to you."

Weaver Suspended 3 Games by League

AP

Earl Weaver, the Baltimore Orioles' manager, was suspended today for three spring training exhibition games.

The suspension - the fourth of Weaver's career - was imposed by Lee MacPhail, the American League president, who attended today's game between the Orioles and the Texas Rangers.

MacPhail acted after the Orioles forfeited a game last Thursday against Kansas City when Weaver took his team off the field in a dispute with the umpires over the lineup card.
